30 October 2002Though this be madnessYet there is meth in't: while state agencies in places like Florida and New Jersey agonize over the fate of absentee ballots, Oklahoma takes a free-market approach. Down in Keota, a wide spot in the road in Haskell County, an absentee ballot is worth $20 or the equivalent quantity of methamphetamine. Then again, what's an equivalent quantity? The powers that be figure three pounds of the stuff to be worth $800,000, so I'm figuring that either it's a far, far better drug than anything I take, or they're quoting Pentagon prices. Meanwhile, the snarky (and dashedly cute) Arkansawyer at Liquid Courage has some suitable thoughts on the subject. Excellent point! I wonder if there's a votes for food stamps scam anywhere? Probably back home in New Orleans ... http://liquidcourage.blogspot.com/2002_10_01_liquidcourage_archive.html#83836816 Vicky Posted by: Vicky at 2:52 PM on 31 October 2002I suspect that at one time or another, just about anything that has black-market value has been swapped for votes.
