7 December 2002Fresh spammageToday's spam is claimed to come from one Jennifer Hawkings, at the dubious address of <sandrasaga@mail.com>. The ostensible Ms. Hawkings says:
Browsing through the CNN website I came across this CNN article which seems to be about you:
http://www.cnn.com:USArticle1840@www.liquidshirts.com/ Believe me, there isn't a chance in hell that anything ever covered by CNN has the slightest thing to do with me; I am completely unknown even at home. And, of course, the trick is in the proffered URL: anything before that @ is parsed as a password/user-ID combination (for use, for instance, with Web-based FTP), and the browser actually travels to liquidshirts.com, a domain belonging to Carlberg Grafix, Inc. of Springfield, Illinois, an institution which is not known to be a provider of information to CNN, but which is known to be a provider of printed novelty items such as T-shirts and, um, toilet paper. At least it's not a porn operation. And "Jennifer", dear, while I appreciate the clever touch of designating Sun's iPlanet Messenger Express, a Web-based product, as the mailer, you really didn't have to go to the trouble of routing this little bit of spam through Russia, the Netherlands and Japan. Then again, given the general resentment of spam by US-based ISPs, maybe you did. Damn, I thought I was special. I got it, too. Twice. Posted by: michele at 8:16 PM on 7 December 2002But you are special. You're just not immune. Posted by: CGHill at 8:59 PM on 7 December 2002Yup, I got it twice, too. So did the boyfriend. Posted by: David at 4:04 AM on 9 December 2002It's come here twice more since the original posting. I'd hate to think I've actually encouraged these characters, but.... Posted by: CGHill at 7:13 AM on 9 December 2002what's the point of jennifer's e-mail? she could have at least included a nude photo, don't you think? Posted by: jake003550 at 1:36 PM on 9 December 2002Naw. She's probably some 40-year-old bald guy named Steve. Posted by: CGHill at 3:22 PM on 9 December 2002I got the same but from a different email ad -
http://www.cnn.com:USArticle1840@www.liquidshirts.com/ Yours, I'm actually relieved. For a secon there I was worried that my past finally came back to haunt me. Posted by: michele at 6:44 PM on 9 December 2002
http://www.cnn.com:USArticle1840@www.liquidshirts.com/ Yours, http://exchristian.net/testimonies/harry.html Give flight to your dreams for they are the heartbeat and freedom to your soul. "If we do not have a 100% trustworthy Bible, we cannot have a 100% Steve Hassan calls information" the fuel we use to keep our minds working properly. Deny a person the information he requires to make sound judgements, and he will be incapable of doing so.” You are an intelligent human being. Your life is valuable for its gee, this dog got the EXACT same message and so, woof, he had to go look it up with google... Hey, I am -not- bald! And you're not the sort to pose as "Jennifer", either. Posted by: CGHill at 10:45 AM on 10 December 2002I did find this email in all the jargon of the options part of the email I got so I sent one to this person. kara@gmx.net Posted by: Brad at 7:57 AM on 11 December 2002 |
