11 January 2003Ditch, ditch, ditchRep. Leonard Sullivan (R-Planet Delusional) thinks the North Canadian River, which snakes its way through the middle of Oklahoma City, should be renamed the Oklahoma River. "I can't see any good reason for Canada to get all of that publicity," says Sullivan, perhaps hoping to set off a firestorm of protest in Ottawa. But of course. And what better name for a stream which needs mowing twice a year, whose banks overflow at the slightest provocation, than "Oklahoma"? Why, the Beaver River, which is what the North Canadian is called above the confluence with Wolf Creek. Of course, not everyone will be happy with a name like Beaver, either. Posted at 11:34 AM to City SceneDear me, what will the Canadian Valley Kennel Club do if they go ahead with the renaming? Posted by: Greg Hlatky at 7:29 PM on 11 January 2003Well, the Canadian River (to the, um, south) will still exist, even if the North Canadian is renamed, so I don't see this as being an issue just yet.
