A Muggle at heart

No, I didn't go stand in line at Barnyard and Ignoble to enjoy the dubious privilege of buying Yet Another Harry Potter Book on its first day of release. In fact, I can think of a number of books by bloggers that would be of far greater interest to me. A sampling:

Susanna Cornett's Don't Dress Up for Dinner
Grim Fairy Tales by Charles Johnson, including The Tale of the Troll and A Religion of Peace
Frank J.'s I Was Rumsfeld When Rumsfeld Was Still a Monkey
The unpublished Acidman monograph Pregnant, No; Barefoot, Yes

And no doubt there are many, many more.

Uh oh -- it's Harry Potter backlash! Well, I won't play. I'll pick up the book someday, just not now. I never buy bestsellers when the hype is frantic.

Besides, I'm busy writing my own book. It's a cookbook. Working title: The Joy of Cooking Troll.

There are good reasons to avoid the crowds. And there's nothing particularly wrong with the Potter books, except that they don't float to the top of my want list.

I did buy one book yesterday: a biography of Condoleezza Rice. Go figure.
