25 June 2003Prejudicial conductTerry Nichols has asked that his pretrial hearings be moved to the county courthouse from their present location, a courtroom built in the basement of the county jail. Holding the hearings at the jail, says counsel for Nichols, "stigmatizes Mr. Nichols and reinforces the public perception that he is a dangerous guilty offender who cannot be treated like other defendants." Yeah. You certainly don't want anyone to reach any conclusions about a person who has already been convicted on eight counts of manslaughter. Who the @#$!! is going to be prejudiced about where his pretrial hearings are held, fercryinnouloud? Jeez. Sounds like a defense lawyer looking for a chance to be tackled by media outside the courthouse, since (I'm guessing) the media can't descend upon him at the jail.
