11 December 2003A heart upon a wallYou know the words:
And when I see the sign that points one way
The lot we used to pass by every day Just walk away, Renee You won't see me follow you back home The empty sidewalks on my block are not the same You're not to blame I knew that Michael Brown's unrequited love was a real person a real person named Renee, no less but it never occurred to me that he was also thinking of a real sign that points one way. It's at the intersection of Falmouth Street and Hampton Avenue in Brooklyn. I owe Dawn Eden, the legendary Petite Powerhouse, big time for this one. (Yeah, I know: I'm still no good for you.) After all these years, that's still my all-time favorite song. Whether it's played from a new CD on a $5000 stereo or through the tinny one-inch cone of a 1965 Impala's AM radio, it's unmatched. Whoops, must dash. "I have a date with a pretty ballerina..." |
