15 December 2003Albatross!John Cleese, who wouldn't become a Freemason now if you went down on your lousy stinking knees and begged him, is contemplating running for Mayor of Santa Barbara, California. It would be worth it just to see him open a Council meeting with "And now for something completely different." There is, so far as I can tell, no truth to the rumor that Mayor Marty Blum responded to this news with "Well, he's scarcely a bloody replacement, is he?" (Via Fark) Santa Barbara could probably use one of those apartment blocks... Posted by: McGehee at 8:25 PM on 15 December 2003Well, what the hell. Politics increasingly seems like a natural profession for actors anyway. Posted by: Dean Esmay at 12:23 AM on 16 December 2003Politics is an -unnatural- profession no matter how one looks at it. Each and every participant (by the very nature of the "job" and their "personality") seems to think he knows -better than you do- what is best for -you- and is too willing to pass legislation to enforce those views. At least with acting, you -know- the guy is reading (or reciting) a script and are aware that it's just a story. With a politician, you know he's lying because his lips are moving.
