3 May 2004I was holding out for "Satisfaction"The British magazine Total Guitar, having polled its readers, has released its list of the greatest guitar riffs of all time, and topping the list is Slash's opening to the Guns n' Roses classic "Sweet Child O'Mine". The lick I thought might have won, from Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water," placed fourth. Five years ago, a similar poll picked Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love," which finished #3 this time. (Via Fark) It disgusts me that anything by "Guns & Roses" could ever be voted #1 on ANY list. It's akin to saying that Nirvana was something other than a dirty grunge band. Feh. Same damn riff against the same damn riffs. Seems fishy to me. Best of all time should be a static list until a new riff comes along. Terkish Payne, then again, if it were the same list every year, wouldn't be any rush for that issue, right? |
