1 June 2004Presumably less than HungThe WB's Superstar USA, says Donna, is "immensely evil":
Those poor deluded people! I am unsure if they are in on the joke or they were deprived of oxygen in their mother's womb. It was wrong to sit and laugh at these quite possibly simple-minded singers but I found that I couldn't take my eyes off the tube! It held me in an evil grip! Thankfully I do not have a tv that gets reception in my house so I will not be tempted to watch this horrible show again. Of course, I may just find myself at my parent's house for the finale, but that would be purely coincidence.
Inasmuch as I've never been impressed by anyone I've seen on American Idol, not even William Hung, I rather doubt I'll be paying much attention to this batch of sub-karaoke warblers, and I thank Donna for doing the dirty work for me. I mentioned "Superstar" to my sister as being proof that general society had finally fully devolved to the level of the high school lunchroom. Her response? "High school lunchroom? Society would have to evolve substantially just to reach that level of maturity.". Sadly, I think she's got a point there... Myria Posted by: Myria at 9:10 AM on 1 June 2004She may be right. For the record, I sing like someone who missed the cut for fifth-grade chorus. And while I've embarrassed myself in front of small groups of friends, it would never occur to me to do likewise for the benefit of a snarky television series. Ok, I can sing fairly well (A result of many, many years of acappella church) - and I would never dream of going on TV. I'm not good enough. What are these people thinking? Posted by: Dan at 2:12 PM on 1 June 2004I'll tell you what they are thinking--- they think they are superstars! It is really amazing watching these people perform-- they honestly believe they are great singers. On the other hand, they might just be convincing actors playing the role of deluded idiots. I am not sure but I do hope for their sake it is the latter. Posted by: Donna at 4:03 PM on 1 June 2004I am so lousy a singer that I offend myself in the shower. The scary part is that I am just as good as most of those performing on these "talent search" programs. Posted by: unimpressed at 11:43 PM on 1 June 2004 |
