We're no angels
Anyone who has spent more than thirty minutes at a party, or fifteen minutes in an online chatroom, knows that some guys are real jerks yet somehow manage to land the babes.
If you're The Washington Post, however, it takes you days in a secondary-education compound and 2600-odd words to come to the same perfectly-obvious conclusion.

And there are some guys who are real jerks because they spend their time worrying about how jerks land all the "babes" -- without thinking about how to land nice, sweet girls who aren't necessarily babes.
Girls don't like jerks, unless they themselves are jerks, and if so, who wants 'em?
Some of us are born jerks, some of us achieve jerkitude, and some of us have jerkdom thrust upon us. The best we can do, I suspect, is to keep the sum of the three "somes" from equaling 100 percent.
And nice, sweet girls can achieve high levels of babeulosity without having supermodel looks; there are a lot of other factors involved, at least to these jaundiced eyes.
Maybe I'm just weird, but I always thought a "babe" was a desirable woman. Of the women I've known who were major-league eye-candy, the overwhelming majority were not desirable to me. As UhHuh might put it, they were jerkettes.
Of course, some with serious eye-candy factor were also very sweet and desirable, and therefore babes. Or would have been, if they hadn't been going around with jerks.
At least, I thought their boyfriends were jerks. The fact they got there first may have had something to do with it.
Nah. They were jerks.
The sum of the somes only comes to about 65% +/- in my limited (ha!) experience. :-)
Babe-ness seems subjective in nature, appearing only in the eye of the beholder. I have never been guilty of sweet *cringe*, and rarely accused of nice without cause... somehow I survive with honest and loyal.
There's a math equation in there somewhere, I can just feel it. lol

Some of my best friends have been not very nice people. ;-)
