17 February 2005No charge for giving it awayFreshman Rep. Dale DePue (R-Edmond) has gotten his Sexually Explicit Business and Escort Service Tax Act through the House Revenue and Taxation Committee. House Bill 1532 seeks to impose a 10-percent tax on strip clubs, dealers of smut, and traffickers in related vices, proceeds to go to DHS to support domestic-violence and sexual-abuse programs. This presumably was a difficult issue for DePue: he's a Traditional Values kind of guy, but he also thinks the state imposes too many taxes. |
