Things I learned today (6)

After all, one should never run out of things to do and learn.

Anita Ekberg did not have bunions.
You can now pay someone to display a fake Caller ID number on your outgoing phone calls.
Nobody in the Northeast wants a ranch home.
You can get 400-thread-count sheets at Target.
In Oklahoma, "surf and turf" means catfish and steak fingers.
The Chinese version of Social Security is going broke and is not amenable to easy fixes.
McGehee, Arkansas, is losing its Wal-Mart.
The Illinois House has passed a bill to prohibit ultrasounds for fetuses without a doctor's order.
So-called "sensitive males" follow the lead of protagonists in Nick Hornby novels — except that they don't actually read the novels.

I haven't done one of these for, like, months.

Re: Item #2, you can also use that fake caller ID to (allegedly) spoof the police and SWAT teams into showing up at the house of someone you don't like. I have been told that this will not work on the 911 system itself, but it will work if you just call the police station on its regular number.

I am hoping that this is covered under Federal wire fraud laws with commensurate punishment (e.g. jail time).
