19 April 2005The right to remain silentThis won't do Syaffolee any good, but it's still promising: the city of Shawnee has rewritten its loud-music ordinance to make audibility beyond 50 feet a ticketable offense, with fines ranging up to $500. Of course, if they really wanted to make a dent in this problem, they'd have written in a provision for confiscation of equipment after repeat offenses. Posted at 9:39 AM to SoonerlandThere is a charming fellow in our neighborhood that plays his music so loud that one can hear it in one’s own house, with the windows closed. Several members of our block have reported said offence to the Tulsa police dept, but to no avail… I’m hesitant to call and file a report on fear of reprisal. He has already shown a propensity for ant-social behavior, and I don’t want to encourage him. Dammed if you call and dammed if you don’t I guess… Oh, I'm all for such an ordinance. I was ready to kill on Sunday, as I noted in a post on the subject. Posted by: timekeeper at 12:12 AM on 20 April 2005 |
