The Finch Formerly Known As Gold

Well, what do you know?

Finally, something is somebody else's fault.

I got my auto-insurance bill for the next six months, and the premium has risen by $36.80 this time around. Since I've had no unfortunate encounters with the law, I immediately pulled out the previous bill and compared notes.

  • Bodily injury liability: no change.
  • Property damage liability: no change.
  • Comprehensive: no change.
  • Collision: no change.
  • Uninsured motorist: up $36.80.

Thanks to all of you deadbeats out there who can't, or won't, scrape up the bucks. Please feel free to pass away from high levels of coprophagia.

Such a poetic way to say ESAD.

There oughta be a law.

And what makes you think any deadbeats read your blog anyway?

(waiting for a zinger)

Actually, last night I wrote up a semi-scholarly-looking piece of drivel about the daily readership here, how much of it is Stateside, how many motorists in the various states (generally about 5 to 20 percent) are uninsured; I combined all these numbers and pronounced that I was likely to have between 4 and 16 actual deadbeats on any given day.

And then I decided that it was even sillier than I thought it was and deleted the whole thing.

No Charles, that's just me popping in repeatedly.

Although, my "deadbeat"-ness isn't of the "uninsured driver" variety. Nor is it of the "dad" variety.

...that I'm aware of.

"Uninsured Motorists" is a misnomer. That isn't what it covers. It should say "Under-Insured".
It is actually designed to kick in when theirs reaches the maximum and more money is required. But guess what? This is normally medical and they are gonna use your medical plan =first=. So you don't really need it. I haven't carried it for years.

Then again, this state, in its infinite wisdom, has seen to it that you are bugged about it every time you renew: insurers are required to give it the hard sell. Too bad they can't put the same level of pressure on the doofuses (doofi?) who don't buy insurance at all; it would be most gratifying to see someone from the Department of Public Safety (or alternate nasty agency where appropriate) knocking on the doors of these people.
