The Finch Formerly Known As Gold

Parentage

While I think this Blog Family Tree is a dandy idea, I'd been having a dickens of a time trying to figure out where, if anywhere, I belonged on this particular structure. Surely I have no blogchildren: if anything, I've discouraged people from this sort of thing. And in my official first blog post, in the summer of 2000, there is no reference to any particular individual who might have provided inspiration to me.

But of all the sites I was reading in the late 1990s, the most pertinent to my own decision to turn this site into a blog, I believe, was #!/usr/bin/girl, run by a "digital anime girl" in Seattle. She's utterly unaware of my existence, I'm sure, but I've always found her stuff endlessly fascinating. If I have a blogparent, it's Zannah, and I am informing the Commissar accordingly.

While you may not have inspired me to start blogging, Charles, I did take some cues from dustbury.com soon after I began and therefore consider you, if not a blogfather, at least a mentor. And whether you realize it or not, you bear some responsibility for my continuance, encouraging me by visiting Okiedoke back when I had only a handful of readers (not to mention an occasional link).

However, after more than two years of me blogging, I'm not sure if I should thank you or curse you. ;)

It depends on whether you approach your blank screen with "Well, let's see what we can do this time" or "Geez, I've got to come up with something."

Or maybe it doesn't, since I've done plenty of both.

Is there room for blog uncles on the tree? I think commensalism if not mutualism deserves a place in the perpetuation of the blog species.
