$45 cash back

Well, actually, it's a check, and anyone who paid Oklahoma income tax for 2004 will be getting it as a rebate. (I had no idea the state was so flush with cash that they could afford to hand out these things; maybe they're making a killing on the Gross Production Tax or something.) Taxpayers who filed joint, head-of-household or surviving-spouse returns will get $90.

Says the Treasurer's office, 1.2 million checks totalling $92 million will be disbursed. That's an average of $76 and change; apparently comparatively few of us are (sigh) single these days.

Even those of us who recently evacuated Oklahoma for the balmy, hurricane-ridden south?

Oh, beware of Greeks bearing checks.
They must've plotted out some new way to extort much more.

Just like MTA in NY - they have raised the cost of the trip at up to 25% for thew last 2 years (see this 2 yr article - even monthly metrocard cost $63, now - $76) - and made a big noise out of promoting "Holiday program - giving back to the riders": for the shopping period extending $76 Metrocard from 30 to 41 days.

As the saying goes: scice of cheese is free only if it's in the mousetrap.

Did you see that they are having Bank of America do it and are paying them over $200,000 for handling it? *Sigh*
Surely it would have been cheaper to handle it themselves!

"Hi, we're from the government and we're here to save you money."

There's a reason you never hear this phrase uttered in Real Life.
