1 January 20064U24CThis is the time of year when the voice of the Predictor is heard in the land. Sometimes this voice is grandly general, sometimes it's foolishly precise, but it's well-nigh inevitable this time of year. Hence: an open thread for you to make some calls of your own. Posted at 8:18 AM to General DisinterestTrackBack: 7:52 PM, 1 January 2006 » 2006 predictions from Independent Christian Voice New Year’s always brings a plethora of obligatory predictions. Since I’m not brave enough this year to make my own, I’ll leave the predictions to another — fellow Oklahoma blogger, Dustbury. His seem reasonable enough and worthy of......[read more] I'll keep my predictions to myself, to avoid possible checks at the end of reported period; but I'd gladly direct you to excellent Anchoress, who decided to publicise hers. Number 16 is a killer. Posted by: Tatyana at 4:58 PM on 1 January 2006Indeed it is. As for her Dowd projection, I wrote something like that, then erased it before the final upload, on the basis that even I didn't believe it. (Probably because I left in the happy ending.) Here's the link to The Anchoress' predictions. Posted by: CGHill at 5:05 PM on 1 January 2006I would predict bloody yet fun-filled political sport in this year's Hoboken elections, but you don't have to be Karnak to suss that out. Hoboken's politics are always like that, except now we have two local Senators (not to mention the Governor who lives up the street) who want to keep a lid on things 'round here. (Power means being IN CONTROL you know.) Naturally, that just means some of us are stockpiling dynamite. Yeah, we have national gubernatorial races too. Rove is still Rove, and the Dems are still the Dems. Besides, people vote with their wallets. If the Republicans lose ten seats, it'll be a lot. Much depends on the economy (should continue up) and the war (they'll start pullouts to coincide with the election). In Jersey, the overtaxed-and-wealthy are leaving. Probably not to Oklahoma (no skin off your nose I'm sure). Florida, Arizona, places like that. Right now it's the relative stability of (surprise) Republican-run NYC that's anchoring Jerseans to the state... otherwise we'd be in free-fall by now. When the wealthiest take flight, the next rung down pays more. We are no longer the wealthiest per-capita state (we were that or damned close for quite a while). It's going to get financially grim around here, even as the cities are getting built up. That's a bad combo. Trump is going to find his Jersey City project is going to go begging after it's up. Prime rate 8 percent huh. Seems steep, but the economy is hot. Hope they leave it alone for a year, but I suppose they won't. This again will drive down high local housing prices. Good for those with cash, unless such people continue to leave. I suspect your tongue is in your cheek re the Pulitzer for blogs. But why don't you predict the first winner anyway? Posted by: Mister Snitch! at 12:57 AM on 2 January 2006Frito-Lay will be forced into re-organization due to collapse of stock price. Investigations will show this is directly correlated to an unexplained catastrophic drop in retail sales of their flagship product, Fritos, in the Oklahoma region.
