Incidentally, shoes of identical length, if size X in a man's style, are size (X + 1.5) in a woman's style — at least, on the American scale. That would help to explain Jessica's preference for very high heels. They make a large foot look appreciably smaller. Just ask my wife. (Wait -- Sweetie, NO! Put down that cleaver!) The woman who wears a 10 proudly is much happier than the woman who should wear an 8 but insists on squeezing herself into a 7. Come to think of it, I used to date someone who wore a size 4 shoe, and she couldn't wear much of a heel at all: her foot would wind up almost perpendicular to the ground. This seems like as good a time as any to mention that Dolly Parton wears a 5. ("Things don't grow in the shade," she explained.) |
