11 January 2006173In the fall of 1943, according to legend, a US Navy ship was supposedly dematerialized and transported by means unknown from Philadelphia to Norfolk, in something known familiarly as the Philadelphia Experiment. The vessel involved was reported to be the USS Eldridge, DE-173, a Cannon-class destroyer. If you prefer your 173s a bit more tangible, The Hip and Zen Pen is hosting Carnival of the Vanities #173, the latest installment of the original weekly blog compendium, dozens of great articles (and one of mine) just a click away. Posted at 7:51 AM to BlogorrheaCharles, I just wanted to point out to you that the ship you mentioned, DE-173 is not a Destroyer, but actually a destroyer escort which is a little smaller than a destroyer. Just something from an old navy guy. Duly noted. (I was a grunt; I wasn't allowed near anything that floated, unless it was a crap game.) |
