The Finch Formerly Known As Gold

Worst. Team Name. Ever.

Houston's new Major League Soccer team will be known as "1836".

I hereby retract anything untoward, unkind, or unsupportive I ever said about the Stanford Cardinal [singular].

Better ideas — or at least no worse — here.

Off Wing prefers "Texians".

My opinion: It's Major League Soccer. Therefore, y'know, who cares?

If you're hatin' on the Cardinal (my brother's alma mater), you must not be too keen on the Harvard Crimson, either.

Off-topic: What's your attribution for today's quote, on death-tragedy-statistic? All signs on the Web point to Stalin, but I'm almost positive it was originally uttered by a French general staff officer during World War I.

Actually, I can only think of one thing I said about the Cardinal, and it was not all that derogatory, but I needed a counterexample at that very moment.

There's no attribution in my quotes file; I've always heard it was Stalin, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear that it might have originated somewhere else.
