A moment of silence

Like the tree, we say nothing, but we bear witness.

When I was working as a National Guard chaplain during the bombing, I was amazed by that tree. One day after visiting with some FBI-types at one of their debris sorting tents on the parking lot, I went over to look-over the tree. It was covered with burn marks and shrapnel embedded in it on the side facing the blast center, and yet as the days progressed its leaves emerged and filled-out.

Given the blast wave from the bomb(30,000 mph est. at street-level, building side -- attenuated quite a bit on the parking lot side and shielded somewhat by the vehicles that helped deflect some it it), I found it absolutely amazing.

Remarkable indeed.

Last year I wrote up the tale of the tree.

I just finished reading your "tale of the tree" and visiting the site to see it. Thanks! I was totally unaware of this remarkable tree. We should be so strong...
