File under "But of course"

Harley-Davidson common stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "HDI."

Until next Tuesday, that is, when the company will be changing to the symbol "HOG."

A few other sort-of-appropriate symbols:

  • BID: Sotheby's
  • BUD: Anheuser-Busch
  • DNA: Genentech
  • EAT: Brinker International (owner of Chili's and On the Border restaurants)
  • FUN: Cedar Fair (theme-park operator)
  • LUV: Southwest Airlines (based at Love Field, Dallas)
  • ROCK: Gibraltar Industries
  • SAM: Boston Beer Co.

If my blog had a NYSE symbol, I fear it would be IKY.

Vince Orza's outfit that owns Garfield's, Pepperoni Grill, etc. was tickered EATS. They've since gone private.

And the company that owns KFC, Long John Silvers and other such joints trades under 'YUM.' (that's their opinion).
ML Macadamia Orchards selected 'NUT;' the amusement park company Cedar Fair uses 'FUN;' Internet America is listed under 'GEEK.'

I'll "STOP' (Gamestop Corp.)

Orza's group is Eateries Inc., right?

NASDAQ listings have at least four letters, so there's perhaps more potential for amusement value there than there might be on the NYSE.
