To the Group W bench with you

Arlo Guthrie, four decades after the Alice’s Restaurant Massacree, fesses up:

The 27 8-by-10 color glossy photographs with the circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each one was? They were not in color, they were actually black and white.

OMG. And that’s not the worst of it, either.

I’ve been thinking a lot about Arlo Guthrie lately as a 30 year old citation for fishing without a license (which was dismissed in court, I might add) has somehow found its way into Homeland Security Databases and is now preventing me from renewing my driver’s license as it appears as an “outstanding warrant.”

I was actually feeling a lot of solidarity with Arlo until you linked to the bombshell:

Arlo Guthrie is now a REPUBLICAN!???

If it makes you feel any better, here’s an explanation:

I became a registered Republican about five or six years ago because to have a successful democracy you have to have at least two parties, and one of them was failing miserably. We had enough good Democrats. We needed a few more good Republicans. We needed a loyal opposition.

I dunno if it’s the explanation, but that’s what he told the lady from The New York Times.

I think all that herb Arlo smoked has caught up with his brain cells. That is the loopiest explanation ever.

I suppose next we’ll hear that you can’t get anything you want at Alice’s.

And Lisa – come to the dark side – we have cookies!
