And what better place, really?

“Bad Romance” goes to college:

How this came about, from the original YouTube page:

Tin-Shi Tam, Iowa State University carillonneur and associate professor of music and theatre, performed Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” on the carillon at noon on Aug. 27, 2010. Brad Riley, senior in journalism and mass communication, started a Facebook group and asked people to send Tam emails requesting that she play the song.

I realize that this pretty much constitutes admitting that I know a Lady Gaga song, but that’s a chance I’m going to have to take.

(Via Hawthorn Mineart, who calls it “awesome,” and of course she’s right.)

It’s a pretty good song. Even though it’s not suppose to be “cool” to like her, she’s actually very talented, just weird because she considers herself a “performance artist” with all the weird outfits, ect. And it’s genius she does that because she’s rather unattractive, so all the stage makeup and wardrobe draw your attention away from that fact.

There exists footage of her in her pre-Gaga days, in which she reveals some serious talent:

This isn’t the sort of material that sells out 20,000-seat arenas, though. That said, she’ll come back to it one of these days, just to see if anyone is paying attention.

My mother tells me that years back, when she was at U of Michigan, the carilloneur kind of “lost it” and spent the better part of one day playing “La Cucaracha” very….slowly.

I’m glad this was intentional. (That said, it sounds very different on a carillon.)
