Not that I have any plans

An odd question, perhaps, but apparently a timely one, from Mandi Bierly at EW.com’s PopWatch:

Reading that CBS is developing a sitcom about a single female Chicago architect (based on the upcoming Susan Brightbill book The True Adventures of a Terrible Dater, Variety reports) got me thinking: Do men find that as attractive a profession as women do? I can’t tell you how many female friends I’ve had over the years, with whom I agree, describe their ideal man as an architect because he’s creative but focused, and good with his hands. George Costanza was right to pretend that he was one to impress the ladies.

Now they tell me.

Anyway, EW.com, for the moment, is polling its readers on this very question. I did cast a vote, although you may be certain that it was based purely on theoretical considerations.

I think a lot of women say that because they imagine he’ll build them their dream house.

I dunno. I guess I kind of stereotyped architects as arrogant jerks. Not sure where that came from…it’s not like I’ve known many architects that well.

the fact that I’ve seen two campus-biology-building projects where the architect either forgot or decided we didn’t really need the gas lines for the Bunsen burners, or where the deionized-water taps were located in annoying and inconvenient places might color my perception.

Or maybe it’s Frank Lloyd Wright that’s affecting my perception…

Mike Brady was an architect. And he moved six kids into a house with two upstairs bedrooms and only one bathroom.

The few I’ve met seemed like sterling folk, but then they presumably had their Public Faces on, inasmuch as the local AIA chapter was sponsoring a tour of their latest and/or greatest.

I wonder what subset of the affirmatives read The Fountainhead.
