Most of my wheels have had sticks - I like the extra feeling of control. Since a lot of them were sporting related, that seemed important.

However, since I've returned to trucking for a living, it's kinda nice just to crawl into my pickup and let it do the shifting for me at the end of the day.......

I've owned two Novas (Novae?); the first had an actual two-speed Powerglide, the second a proper (if lethargic) Turbo Hydra-Matic.

My old Celica had a really slick shifter, but then it was rear-drive and low-powered, which made this a bit easier to attain. (More HP and you wind up needing more of a clutch, and, well, you get the idea; FWD cars tend to be shifted with cables, which is like eating at KFC with chopsticks.)

I actually prefer stick although it has been many years since I've had one. I feel you lose some of the feel of the car by taking that shift away from the driver. Fond teen memories of popping that clutch and rolling through the gears. I miss that Nova.
