Quote of the week
The Man of the West weighs in on Terry Jones’ barbecued-book escapade:
Not to put too fine a point on it, but it seems to me that certain things need to be pointed out to President Karzai: that Pastor Jones lives in the United States, not Afghanistan; that we enjoy the protection of the First Amendment; and that it is not Pastor Jones’ fault that Muslims are so frickin’ deranged as to go all apesquat over the burning of a copy of the Koran and that their doing so pretty much proves his point (I note again that I would not go all apesquat over the burning of a Bible, offensive though I might find it, nor would any other Christian I know). It further seems to me that the only thing preventing POTUS and our diplomats from pointing these things out to President Karzai and cheerfully inviting him to take his opinion and go tinkle up a rope is a pronounced and tragic lack of onions.
Well, the diplomats, maybe. POTUS would never, ever say such a thing, except maybe to Benjamin Netanyahu if he thought the microphones were off.

Stupid as Jones and his act are, you have to admire this as a war strategy.
I mean if the Islamists are our enemy, anything that makes them go berserk and kill each other has to be a net plus.
Course it would help if the U.N.ers hadn’t gotten in the way. Maybe they’ll be smarter next time.

I think it should also be pointed out that the First Law of Needling states that, if you have a sore spot, SOMEbody’s gonna poke it. The corrollary is that the more het up you get over bein’ poked, the more people are gonna be interested in making you dance.
I’t s just human nature.
Smart people don’t react so easy to provocation. But nobody said Muslims are per se smart. (See?)

If one of the Muslim bigshots threatened to burn a Bible, the Televangelists would howl (don’t know why, they don’t read it anyway) and crazy Aunt Matilda would be forwarding more chain letters about it, but that would be about the level of reaction.
I’d call this Exhibit A for more CNG cars. Yeah, I know that the bulk of the oil used here is from North America, but if we aren’t buying as much, the producers will feel a greater need to cut prices in response to demand, and thus OPEC et al has less money for ‘entertainment’ at the expense of us and even their own people. The less money the world feeds this institutionalized pedagogical multi-generational insanity, the better off we’ll all be.
