You’ll feel better in the morning

Will Truman has the best one-liner of the week, even if it does exceed a single line by a hair:

People with low self-esteem rush to the defense of damaged brands. That might explain my continued — albeit waning — affiliation with the Republican Party.

I sympathize.

In this light your own affiliation look – at best – opportunistic

Unless I’m mistaken, Chaz has been a Democrat through at least two periods when everyone thought that party on its deathbed. I can think of 99 ways to describe that, but “opportunistic” ain’t one.

Of course it is. When actual grownups return to power in this nation, I expect to be more than just marginally influential.

It is a grave mistake to think of current crop of Dems in the multiple capitol buildings as teenagers.
Like it or not, they are responsible for their actions – and everyone who shares the party affiliation with that gang of thieves compromised his/her integrity by compliance with party policies.

The only thing I do in compliance with party policies is to show up for the primaries and help pick a candidate. I admit that I have not always chosen wisely, or too well, but this is what we get. And at this point, signing up with a different gang of thieves is not my idea of a solution.

What about not signing with any gang at all? If you claim your participation doers not change much, why participate in a first place?
As things stand now, anyone with (D) after their name is complicit.

Well, it doesn’t change much — but it might. And in this state, independents are shut out of the primaries altogether.

Oh yes, the “transform the party from within” argument. Failed at every attempt – Soviet Communist Party to National Socialists in Germany…

Of course it did. I expect these guys to splinter eventually. (The GOP will go first, but it will go.)

If it will I’ll be the first to approve. Still, until that happens, simple sense of moral cleanliness should prevent one from association.
