Up from under

The Satanic Temple, which has applied to place a monument of His Devilish Majesty at the Oklahoma State Capitol, has released the design for the proposed statuary:

Proposed statue of Satan

The Capitol Preservation Commission, which receives such applications, has declared a moratorium on such things until a lawsuit over the extant Ten Commandments monument is resolved.

Meanwhile, the Temple, through Indiegogo, hopes to raise $20,000 to cover the costs; at this writing, they’re a little over halfway there.

Looks like they have now met their goal.

Not bad, raising ten grand in less than a day. I suppose the news cycle caught up.

Well, that looks like it’s going to run somewhere between $500 and $800; maybe the balance is for repair or replacement once the thing is vandalized over and over and over again.

The joke’s on the people who gave money to the group with the idea that their monument will ever get made or placed. The Legislature will probably vote to remove the Ten C’s monument if it comes to that, even if the state can win its case with the ACLU about that placement.

This comment at OKCTalk seems pertinent:

The capitol building is gonna be overrun by Live Action Dungeons and Dragons players trying to kill it for experience points.

That might discourage some folks right there.

Okay, my granddaughter demands a Twilight Sparkle Statue, too.

I will happily endorse that suggestion, and will even contribute to the construction costs.

I’m thinking with a few mods, the statue pictured there could become Discord.

(And I confess, I really hope, once it gets built, that some crazy knitter decides to yarnbomb it with a striped scarf or something…..)

Dang! I don’t knit, I crochet. (No, I will not call myself a hooker)

Amusingly, a rival Satanic organization dislikes the proposed statue, calling it “crude,” “ugly,” and “pedophilic.”

Jennifer: Crocheters can yarnbomb too. I think there’s someone who covered an entire bus (in Mexico City or somewhere) with a crocheted cover as an art project.

As I recall, it looked like this.
