Hardware blues

Consider this a brief summation of what goes through your head as you desperately search for ways to keep this old clunker running for just a few more weeks. And by “you,” I of course mean “me.”

Try HP, if you can stand it; they allegedly still sell machines with Windows 7 on them.

If they’re anything like the one they sold the office for use as a system console — IBM has officially disowned twinax, since it’s old and functional — they’re probably awash in crapware.

Yup, I’ve got a laptop (the one I rely on for public deformances with VSTi’s oozing incredible angel trumpet and deviled trombones) that I changed out the memory on, hit BSOD’s and simply gave up for the night. Sadly, while XP has proven itself as one of the more reliable operating systems, like Win2000, it too shall be hurled off the cliff and into the la Brea tarpits of OS’s.

I hear it every freakin’ day now.. “XP isn’t going to be supported after yada-yada-yada.” So, I’ve already been trying out Win7 and ‘fixing’ Win8/8.1 on a daily basis. Humlbe opinion, it’s not as bad as you might fear, but in simple terms that we still use oftener than not, windows sucks and only marginally less than a Mac, which has me looking at a Mac laptop with genuine Firewire ports on it. Yup, it’s that bad..
