System of a John

A mashup of “Chop Suey!” and “Crocodile Rock” simply should not work.

And yet:

I watched this three times in succession, and somehow survived.

I’m still downloading the vid (due to my cheap streaming package), but from what little I’ve seen, I’m amazed that a) a punk group had a song called Chop Suey (the wiki page is especially informative) b) that I had never heard of its “controversial” nature (although I guess we were preoccupied with other stuff at the time; and c) it wasn’t based on Croc Rock, which is an awesome song.

I should probably stop assuming that everyone is more musically aware than I am.

The amazing thing about this, if you ask me, is that “Chop Suey!” has several radical tempo changes throughout, none of which are really evident during the mashup.

And speaking of “Chop Suey!,” “Weird Al” Yankovic did a chunk of it near the front of “Angry White Boy Polka,” on his Poodle Hat album.
