About the school thing: Seems to me, back in the day (even still to an extent when I was a kid, but it never happened to me), schools were more willing to skip ahead a kid who seemed to have mastered the material and was bored in their age-group classes.
(I earned good grades and mastered the material, but was waaaaaaaaay emotionally immature, and they may have noticed that, and that kept them from even considering skipping. Or maybe I wasn’t the egghead all the other little kids told me I was.)
