Almost rhymes with “invidious”

Apparently the only reason we need these is because the state wants to bank the bulk of a five-buck new-plate fee:

Official 2018 Oklahoma license plate design

Me, I’m with this TLO commenter:

Why not use an image of mistletoe? A parasitic state flower seems more appropriate to represent our current government leaders.

Indeed. Then again, you’ve already seen my best thinking on the subject.

“A parasitic state flower” What? You couldn’t get the ‘chest burster’ from “Alien”??

The state’s in dire straits, financially; they probably couldn’t afford to license the, um, character.

Mistletoe? That’s a bird, right there. Some sort of bird anyway. Since when does a bird rep Oklahoma?

I’m also not much of a fan of the way governments only seem to demonstrate creativity when it comes time to separate us from our money. But I’ve noticed a lot of the detractors of the new plate are also on record supporting the penny sales tax in State Question 779, and I’m having a hard time seeing the overlap there.

Scissor-tailed flycatcher. Not that you could tell from the MS Paint-level graphics.

Tulsa World’s (IIRC) Ginnie Graham likened it to the Mockingjay from “The Hunger Games.” So maybe our new state motto should be “May the odds ever be in your favor”

Considering that pretty much only casinos are making a profit right now, maybe that’s apropos.
