The gospel according to Warren

I know Warren Kinsella is smarter than this:

This refugee family with controversial values violated immigration laws

Um, no. From the second chapter of Luke [ESV]:

1 In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3 And all went to be registered, each to his own town. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.

Got that? Joseph and Mary and the as-yet-unborn child were headed for Bethlehem because it was the Roman law. In no wise were they refugees or immigrants.

Shorter version:

That would help, yes.

Generally, when people make this claim they’re referring to the flight into Egypt prompted by the angel warning of Herod’s threat. I’ve seen it a lot recently with reference to displaced Syrians.

But that still doesn’t exactly jive with the supposed sanctimonious smackdown intended, since the family were *not* permanent immigrants and were able to return to Nazareth following a regime change

Oh, now you’re all FOR legal immigration and enforcement of the Law!
Just not by your hand, ah, I get it.

Does he realize he’s saying immigrants should go back to where their family came from – likely to Mexico – to register there?

If liberals want to quote a relevant Biblical verse, they can borrow a copy of the Bible and look up Exodus 22:21.
