Bad day at first base

The Chinese Professional Baseball League is located in Taiwan, and most of their games are played with more finesse than this:

One imagines an Asian version of Casey Stengel grumbling “Can’t anybody here play this game?”

Reminds me of when I was in grad school and used to play softball.

    Beer was also involved.

It reminded me of the infamous “Statue of Liberty” play by Patrick Roy, who thought he’d snagged a shot, held up his glove to show the ref (and perhaps show off for the fans), only to have left it sitting in his crease to be poked in.

That’s bad enough, but this was the playoffs, at home, against their bitterest arch-rivals, when a win would have sent them to the Stanley Cup finals. Instead they lost, and then lost Game Seven, and their rivals went on to win the Cup instead.

As a goalie myself… I think I’d rather be the first baseman.

Buckner did it better, err, worse, with more riding on it.

    Indeed.

I typed “bill buckner” into the YouTube search box, and the very first item was “1986 world series error.”
