Local girl makes good

Edgar Bergen, arguably the best-known ventriloquist in history, was in his element on the radio, where you couldn’t see his lips moving along with Charlie’s or Mortimer’s.

Last year on America’s Got Talent, you saw me fangirling over a 12-year-old singer/ukulele player. This was, of course, my inner 9-year-old girl forcing her way to the surface: she wanted to grow up to be Grace VanderWaal.

Then again, that was last year. This year on AGT we have a 12-year-old ventriloquist. Who sings. Or whose companion, a rabbit named Petunia, sings. And who’s from just up the street a bit. And here I go:

Charlie McCarthy was unavailable for comment, and perhaps it’s just as well; he was kind of a letch.

She’s very good. I understand she’s used Petunia and others to overcome her shyness.

Wow. That girl has real talent.
Not only is she a great ventriloquist, but a pretty good singer as well. (…and only twelve years old.)
