So sound the tone you know can’t fail
I knew when I bought the 6133 that T-Mobile, avaricious to the last, had directed Nokia to rig the phone to play MP3s, but not to allow their use for ringtones unless they came from T-Mo itself. Being an old hand at screwing around with filetypes, and having noticed that WMAs actually will work, I am trying to locate a suitable conversion tool. Alternatively, I could do a CD full of potential tones, and then rip them with Windows Media Player.
I mention this now, in early December, inasmuch as I’m currently wrestling with the idea that the B. C. Clark jingle might make one heck of a ringtone.

Good luck downloading! I vaguely remember the B.C. Clark jingle, from those halcyon days at OU. Unless it’s a new jingle.
Are you familiar with the ‘Galaxy Glue’ jingle from “The Incredible Shrinking Woman”, Charles?
Now there’s a jingle never to ever leave my mind.

It’s the same old B. C. Clark jingle. I’ll have to look out for Galaxy Glue.

How scary! Are you sure you want to take the BC Clark ringtone? Can you imagine all the people who will stop and start singing?! I shutter at the thought.

Believe me, I know the power of the jingle:
[A]rguably the high point was when Dawn [Eden] sought to demonstrate the Power of Advertising by giving us a taste of the Mister Softee theme music, and half a dozen of us burst into a spirited rendition of the B. C. Clark jingle.

Oh, and if you must have Galaxy Glue, this place has a download link.

I ran into the same problem with my 6133. I found the WinLAME encoder works well, and is a free download. Since the phone doesn’t need a high bitrate for ringtones, I encoded mine at 128k. My resulting ringtones sound great (for cellphone ringtones) on my 6133.
Here is a link, if I can get it to work… http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/winlame/winLAME-prerelease4.msi?download
If my link doesn’t work, do a search for winlame download and use the winlame.sourceforge.net result.
Good luck!

I’ve hit upon yet another expedient: Nero (infamous for their Burning ROM) packs a Wave Editor with the full package. Give it an MP3, and it turns it into a WAV, albeit not exactly the original (lossy compression is like that); there’s an option to save as a WMA.
Which leaves one irritant: I still need to come up with a USB cable for this phone, and apparently its USB connector is nonstandard.

You can find a USB cable online, but a Bluetooth dongle will work as well, and is usually much cheaper than the “pop port” cable that is needed for the 6133. You can find a Bluetooth dongle at any of the local big box stores like Best Buy or CompUSA. I believe I paid about $10 for mine last year, and I use it to put ringtones on my 6133, as well as to transfer photos from the phone to the computer.

Hmmm. Will I have to de-pair (or whatever the word is) my Bluetooth headset to use it?

You shouldn’t have to. I don’t use a Bluetooth headset, so I can’t guarantee it. Even if you do have to disconnect (or whatever) your connection between your headset and your phone, it should reconnect again automatically, since it has paired with it before.
I’m quite certain that you won’t have to unpair your headset. I expect to get a Bluetooth headset for Christmas, so I’ve had to resist buying one…
