We make it easy for squatters

I snagged this ad while looking up a Whois at Network Solutions:

Network Solutions promotion

Do you know when your domain expires? Somebody does.

I found your site by way of baldilocks. It is strange, I had a press a print printing business named Just Name It, it was at justnameit.com, which is now owned by a Domain Name registration company. No, I was not aware of when my domain expired, they obviously were.

    And don’t forget domain tasters.

I let one of my obscure domains expire because I figured it would be easier to reregister it with a cheaper registrar (GoDaddy) than the expensive one (Network Solutions). After Network Solutions did its customary couple of weeks squat on it in case I really wanted to pay 3.5 times what it would cost at GoDaddy, a group in Russia picked it right up.

And when they discovered that it didn’t draw any traffic (I still have it parked after 5 years), they spit it back out.

And I registered it again at GoDaddy.

My domain registrar knows when my domain expires, and they make sure to let my credit card company know well in advance. Auto-renew can be a beautiful thing, done right.
