Sammy Hagar tunes up

The question is posed: “Is it time to return to the double-nickel?”

The answer: No. In fact, hell, no.

You can always buy more fuel; you can never buy more time. Simple as that.

When I see no more campers towing boats and SUVs with nothing but bling cruising our highways, I’ll then believe energy costs are too high for us to stand.

Many vehicles have maximum fuel efficiency at 60-65 mph. A 55 mph speed limit would actually waste fuel in a lot of cases.

Besides, have you been on the highway lately? Few drive faster than 70 as is. The marketplace has already taken care of the problem, no need for governmental interference.

The only people I can think of who would actually push for 55 would be the municipalities who have lost revenue due to the diminished number of speeders.
