We need a word for this
Back in March, I kvetched a bit about Apple trying to foist off copies of Safari through iTunes/QuickTime update. Since then, I’ve seen a couple of things come down the pike bearing stealth copies of the Yahoo! Toolbar. And now Symantec is getting into the act:

Says Lynne, whose screen capture this is:
[T]he box is already checked so unless you catch it, guess what gets installed along with the update.
Thankfully the firewall kept popping up and it was annoying my little one, so he called me and I was able to uncheck the ‘norton crap’ before continuing the update.
“Usurperware,” while possibly accurate, looks funny. Any ideas?
Update: Apparently Adobe will throw in any damn thing imaginable.

I like “Usurperware.”
What about “Commandeerware” or “Preemptionware” (which also look funny).
(Had to go to an online thesaurus for those).
“Prepare-to-be-boarded-ware”? That’s what I think of when I think of “commandeer.”

Always do a “custom” install versus the default one. You will be amazed what all gets installed otherwise!
