Fardles to bear
The Germans, the French, the British, the Russians — none of them get to vote in the US Presidential election. And if you believe this twerp in the Grauniad, they’re all upset about it:
Obama has stirred an excitement around the globe unmatched by any American politician in living memory. Polling in Germany, France, Britain and Russia shows that Obama would win by whopping majorities, with the pattern repeated in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. If November 4 were a global ballot, Obama would win it handsomely. If the free world could choose its leader, it would be Barack Obama.
Fine. Should Mr Obama inexplicably fail to win the Presidency, I’d support him for Secretary-General of the United Nations, once Ban Ki-moon’s term ends in 2011. It’s a job to which he’s probably better suited, anyway: more oratory, less scut work.
Beyond that, there’s this consideration:
[W]hat the fardles has the world done better than we have that the advice they have to give us should be given any credence whatsoever? Economy? Science? Invention? Individual liberty? General prosperity? Military and political power? The strength of our culture — meaning people actually (you know) want it, as opposed to being told by their (scorn quotes) “betters” they should appreciate it?
Everybody who says “free health care” ought to have to write the checks for it. Oh, wait: they will.

If the free world could choose its leaderIf the rest of the free world had a fargin’ clue what leadership means, it wouldn’t have to default that role to our fargin’ president.

I hate it when I misspell a word in an HTML tag and don’t catch it before I hit “submit.”
