I am thinking it might be bad form to use any of the Sonics’ retired numbers (1, 10, 19, 24, 32, 43), at least until Seattle is back in the league.
This was before Desmond Mason, who’s worn 24 since his first day in the NBA, was traded to Oklahoma City. There’s no indication that D-Mase was thinking along these lines, but he’s getting himself renumbered:
No. 34 was his college number, which he said he wanted when Seattle originally drafted him but was taken by Jelani McCoy.
I’m waiting to see what Joe Smith, #32 with the Cavs last year, ends up wearing.
