Actually, having once been a small boy, I have a certain affinity for mud, though numerous lectures from the parental units have more or less cured my desire to play in it.

And, well, I've always had a soft spot for Joe Biden; yeah, he's making it up as he goes along, when he's not cutting and pasting from somewhere else, but he's always at least slightly entertaining. Think Bill Clinton with a different accent and less horndoggery.

I'm only backing Obama because the alternative is too horribly stupid. I congratulate Obama and Biden for sticking to the issues instead of getting down in the mud.

I'm not stupid enough to believe that anything anyone does as president is make my life better.

Not arguing, but I fall into the category you specified. Most of the time, anyway.

It's a belief thing, based on one's willingness to defend such. My current state of mind — and it took entirely too long to get there, if you ask me — can be summed up this way: "Credo in unum Deum. Everything else is at least arguable."

(And for those who want to argue the Credo bit, that's fine with me — I won't take it personally and I won't get preachy — but they will change no minds at this end. Some of my best friends, as the phrase goes, are nonbelievers.)

I'm going through the same conflicts right now. These last few years I've stayed far, far away from anything remotely close to politics, but lately, it's on everybody's mind so much, it's become topical even in a pop culture sense.

But the "don't give a damn" model is appealing. I've been operating under the "throw the bums out" model, or as I like to refer to it, "they're all corrupt, which should be more important to us than whether D or R is after the name".

And FWIW, Chaz, your blog is a model for me when I need to practice self-restraint in my writing, which is often. My natural tendency is toward hyperbole and sarcasm, at least when I get exercised about something. I like the way your writing sort of says, "yeah, here's some stuff, I have some mild opinions, maybe, but I could be wrong, so there you go". The internet could definitely use more of your style. I guess some folks like to scream and yell at each other though. There sure is a lot of it, even on sports blogs. Sigh ... I thought it was mostly a political blogging thing, but it isn't.
