Continuous tweakage

Please note that I don’t call it “continuous improvement,” because not everything I do here will actually improve things.

Last weekend, prompted by a reader, I decided that mere color change for hovering over a link, as prescribed by the stylesheet, might be inadequate, especially if you couldn’t tell the links (bluish) from the text (black-y). I changed the color of the links, briefly; experimented with a colored background for a while; but ultimately decided to go with the tried and true underline.

There are still, of course, dozens of things I could do around here, a few of which I actually can do and a few more of which I suppose I will eventually learn.

Update: Second paragraph, which was unclear, is now marginally less so.

How to get rid of a sudden suitor on London Tube train, a dialog:

He: Ah, so this is your first visit here. Have you been to Stratford-on-Avon yet?
Me: No. Not a fan of your bard.

He: faints in apparent heart attack.

Hmmm. I’m still seeing the sans-underline links hereabout?

I know a good chunk of the design community considers the underlined hyperlink passe, but I think it’s wayyyyy more functional than relying solely on link-font color or emphasis. Frankly, a lot of times, the hyperlink color assigned is so light that I can’t readily see it in the text, even if I’m not just scanning. It’s a pain and I wish that aesthetic would die already.

Much of the sidebar still has that background-color thing going on. As for links in the ostensible content, you get the underscore only at hover. (Never underestimate my fondness for dying aesthetics.)
