And ever more goblins

Last year at this time I said something that might have been construed as wishful thinking:

I’m starting to see more kids in the neighborhood generally, which I hope is the beginning of a trend. I think we have something to offer in this corner of town: relatively-affordable housing stock in better-than-average shape for its age (sixty years), proximity to shopping, and one of the better city schools within walking distance.

This declaration was based upon a marked increase in Halloween transactions: at no previous time had I ever gotten more than five trick-or-treaters, but last year I pulled in nine.

This year? Thirty. I had to shut down at 8:30 because of treat depletion.

And they’re brighter, too. I have a motion detector near the door which when tripped kicks on a couple of floodlights, but a couple of invisible girls (okay, technically they could be seen, but work with me here) managed to bypass the device by causing a temporary bustle in my hedgerow. For a moment, I was almost alarmed.

Your manor has a name and a hedgerow?

    Man, I envy.

As the termite guy said earlier this week: “You definitely got some foliage.”
