Condi pours it on
Thank Oscar de la Renta for this one: you’re looking at outgoing Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards, last Monday at Carnegie Hall, New York. Oscar has done right by Condi in the past: on her 50th birthday, Sir David Manning, Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the US, organized a surprise birthday party for her and arranged for a red Oscar de la Renta gown to be waiting for her when she arrived. Even George W., not much of a party person, stayed up late for that one. I am pleased to note that this time around, arguably her weakest point — her too-often-uninteresting hair — was properly addressed. I haven’t been able to track down her shoes yet. Oh, and Glamour managed something of a coup: they got Hillary Clinton into a gown. For the time being, I’d just as soon not speculate as to whether she’s going to be the incoming Secretary of State.

Condi: Rowwrrr!
Hillary: Not so much. Her outfit lacked the pointy hat.

The Obama administration, I understand, is planning a ban on assault cauldrons.

She looks terrific. The color is hers, and the cut emphasizes her best features – flat stomach, toned biceps, general slimness. And her smile! HRC: I agree with Jeffro.

I thought they both looked good. Hillary’s momma obviously didn’t teach her to be a fashion plate but Condi’s did — she has a definite style and obviously likes fashion. Hillary doesn’t — a pantsuit is easy looks neat and she doesn’t have to worry about anything except whether blouse and shoes match it. My momma was a stickler on how her daughters dressed (I am still careful on how I look to this day) as was I with mine who prefers sweaters and jeans but knows how to “rag down”, as she calls it, with style when the occasion merits it. I don’t think pantsuits look good on anyone. I own one but rarely wear it — and NEVER on an interview. I guess I have a style of my own because I get calls from friends telling me that they saw a dress that “looks just like you” and where I should go look.

I’ve noticed that just about any woman willing to dress like that has to be at least a little outgoing.

Interestingly, this thread has been seen by someone in Chappaqua, New York, which is Clinton Central these days — and, given the lack of inbound link, from someone who either has me bookmarked or takes my feed. Maybe someone in their office is doing a little, um, research.

Damn. All the good snarky comments have already been used.
