Scrutinizing the insurance bill

For the car, that is; I’ve already gotten the notice for the house. (The car, incidentally, costs more, probably because it’s easier to steal.)

The premium has gone up by a not-inconsiderable $42.40 for six months, so it’s time to compare notes:

  • Liability (injury): down $5.10.
  • Liability (property): up $6.80.
  • Uninsured motorists: up $31.80.
  • Comprehensive: up $8.20.
  • Collision: up $0.90.
  • Road service: down $0.10.
  • Rental reimbursement: down $0.10.

As I said before when confronted with an increase in the uninsured-motorists segment:

Thanks to all of you deadbeats out there who can’t, or won’t, scrape up the bucks. Please feel free to pass away from high levels of coprophagia.

Given the allegedly poor state of the economy, even low levels would be okay this time around.

Now that is what I call an insult. I like it.

I just signed a policy, due to take effect next month, that will cost less than half what I’m paying now — the diff was a surcharge for an accident I DID NOT CAUSE and WAS NOT INVOLVED IN. (Don’t insure anyone you don’t have to, people.)

Well said!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just changed insurance companies because my provider raised my premium 20% , I made no claims, had no accidents — my fault or someone else’s, or so much as a parking ticket. In short — I was pure profit. When I asked why, I was told that my credit wasn’t good (a lingering legacy from my ex — sigh). I couldn’t get a straight answer when I asked what that had to do with my driving or my premium — I pay on time or I have no insurace — so I changed to another company. I hate insurance companies — they are licensed to steal.

Completely agreed. And nicely worded, that.

My house insurance is considerably more than my car insurance. Then again, I drive a cheap, old car, and perhaps theft is less of an issue where I live. (And I suppose I’d be far more devastated if something bad happened to my house than if something bad happened to my car).
