309

Andrew Ian Dodge, in his introduction to the 309th Carnival of the Vanities, hopes “it finds you well and content.”

In my case, I am not so well that I can afford to blow some astounding sum of money on, say, this new Catalina 309 yacht, but I’ll get over it.

309 is my parents’ area code. So sometimes dialing it finds me well and content, but other times I dial it when distressed….

I thought about doing an area-code reference, but remembered that I’d done one just two weeks ago.

Isn’t OKC, like, landlocked? What would you do with giant sailboat if you had one? Park it in the driveway and spend your Saturday’s washing and polishing? Or is there a secret sailor hiding inside you?

If I could afford a yacht, I could afford a seasonal home to stash toys like that.

That said, both my parents were sailors, so at least some of it runs in the family, though apparently swimming skill is not heritable.

And we have 17 square miles of water within the city limits, some of which is just up the road a piece.
