Doing my part to stimulate the economy
I went through a protracted period of Not Buying Stuff, and eventually I got to the point where I needed some more, or at least better, Stuff.
For example: the traditional George Foreman grill has served me well for several years, but it is a major byotch to clean. George’s newer models have removable grill sections which I can soak in the sink, which will ease this task considerably.
I also bought a new wallet, mostly because my old one was, well, old, to the point of coming apart at the seams. The new one probably wasn’t constructed quite as well, but it’s got a long way to fall.
Finally, having noticed occasional fluctuations in picture size on my trusty ViewSonic monitor, I sent away for a 22-inch LCD screen, which will give me a couple extra square inches of desk space, maybe.

View Sonic I hope? I have the 22″ and I love it! The VX2235wm.
And yes, it takes up a lot less room :)

Actually, I decided, given the office’s (so far) good fortune with cheap off-brand screens from the Pacific Rim, to buy a cheap off-brand screen from the Pacific Rim.

I recently learned a good trick on the Foreman grill….when finished grilling, unplug and place 2 wet paper towels on the grill, close lid for a few seconds, open and wipe clean. It’s a snap.
I only have the 19″ ViewSonic. 22″ would be much nicer.

This is approximately what I’ve been doing with my grill, only I’m using a discarded washcloth. It helps.

The tips on cleaning the Foreman are appreciated. I must admit that there are times that I want to use my Foreman, but keep it put away because I dread cleaning the thing.

Hrm. I was thinking of buying a Foreman but maybe I’ll just stick with the grill pan (a conventional hardsurface (anodized?) fry pan with grill ridges). It’s pretty easy to clean and though it won’t make panini, there really hasn’t been a time in the past five years when I could have claimed to actually have craved a panini.
The grill pan has the virtue of being almost effortless to clean most of the time, and even if something DOES stick, a trip through the dishwasher usually clears that up.
The grill pan also weighs approximately fifteen pounds and I will admit to there having been nights when there were…mystery noises…in the neighborhood where I put it in a convenient place just in case I needed a weapon-like object. I don’t think a Foreman grill would work that way, even if it is endorsed by a former boxer.
(Before anyone mentions it, yes, I know: Don’t bring a pan to a gun fight.)

Fillyjonk, a variation on the USMC Rules of Engagement: Bringing a pan to a gunfight is okay as long as you also bring a gun. And all of your friends with guns.
I assume they can also brings pans too, if they want.
