Methane is equivalent to 120 octane, but collected in this form the impurities (is it still a gas if there are lumps in it?) may be detrimental. It is common practice for municipal sewage treatment plants to run their pumps off sewer gas-fueled spark ignition converted diesels. I did some tooling development for Cat Lafayette for the spark-ignition cylinder heads for their really big diesel engines.
